SoilMop
EU Horizon SoilCrates Funded Research Project
We’re very pleased to have received funding under the SOILCRATES EU funding scheme!
Our project, "Soil Enhancement through Microbial Biostimulants and Gypsum" (SoilMop), will examine the extent to which a combination of microbial biostimulants and gypsum can improve soil health, Plant health and their attention of soil nutrients in grasssland and arable scenarios. A key aspect of this project is to use aerial technology to evaluate soil nutrient deficiencies and plant health issues, educating farmers on this new evaluation tool.
SoilMop will run for two years and will start in March 2026. Thank you to all at SOILCRATES-Ireland for your contributions so far!

Soil Water Infiltration
Using FuturAg's products, we are investigating their abilities to encourage the infiltration of water through soil over the winter. This would allow for earlier spring grazing and reduce silage consumption which can be expensive and environmentally more impactful than grazed grass

Microbial Biostimulant's ability to replace Chemical Nitrogen
This research project was carried out on grassland between July and October 2025. The aim was to asses MB's ability to replace Urea fertiliser without sacrificing grass yield or quality.

Protein-I
This is a project from the School of Agriculture in University College Dublin. The aim is improve the production of plant based protein sources in Irish agriculture. We’re planting two varieties of winter wheat to asses disease resistance, yield and protein content.

Soil pH
Conducted on sloping, free draining and low pH soil (5.6), this study is looking at liquid solutions to raise soil pH so that pH raises to 6.3-7. This would encourage better grass growth in poor soils. This study was conducted in winter 204/25, and is being replicated from June 2025 - June 2026.

Humate Spring Barley
Humate, an organic soil amendment that enhances soil fertility and structure, was applied to a spring barley crop and compared with control and a seweed fertiliser product. The aim was to assess how humate impacts soil bilogy, crop yield and crop component yield.

Microbial Seed Treatment in Winter Wheat
Due to finish in September 2026, this trial investigates the effectiveness of microbial seed treatments in hastening plant emergence and tillering when compared to controls and conventional seed treatments. This research will be expanded to spring barley in spring 2026.
